Porthallow was once a busy village with a thriving pilchard industry and it is still used today by some fishermen. It is situated on the east side of The Lizard Peninsula (just south of the Helford River Estuary) and most visitors come here to share a glorious view of Falmouth Bay and enjoy a range of leisure activities available.
The area has sandy beaches and other fishing villages dotted amid unspoilt countryside and farmland.

Porthallow has a beach cafe, public house, post office, tea shop, gift shops and even its own vineyard. Visitors interested in the marine history of the area may like to visit the Five Pilchards Inn which has a large collection of shipwreck relics and old photographs.
Some of the best cliff walks can be taken from Porthallow and on a clear day you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of Falmouth Bay and the Cornish coastline.

Other nearby places of interest to visit while staying in Porthallow include SCUBA diving in Porthkerris Cove and a visit to Goonhilly satellite station, Flambards Theme Park and RNAS Culdrose.
Locally Porthallow is an excellent place to fish either off the beach or from the rocks on either side of the cove. At low tide you can explore the rock pools - a favourite pastime for children as the cove is usually quite sheltered.
